Molde edged a breathless seven-goal thriller against Vålerenga at Intility Arena on Sunday 30 August, winning 4–3 in the Eliteserien. An attendance of 10,138 witnessed an extraordinary first half that was already level at 3–3 at the break. The defeat rounds off a winless August at home for Vålerenga despite two spectacular occasions on their newly-laid artificial pitch.
A Seven-Goal Thriller at Valle Hovin
Vålerenga and Molde served up one of the most dramatic matches seen at Intility Arena this season on Sunday 30 August, with the visitors from the northwest ultimately coming away with a 4–3 victory in the Eliteserien.
The match was level at 3–3 at half-time — a scoreline that had the crowd of 10,138 on their feet — before Molde managed to edge ahead and hold on through a frantic second half to seal all three points.
Atmosphere but No Reward for the Home Faithful
Despite the defeat, Intility Arena was alive throughout the ninety minutes. An attendance of just over 10,000 created a charged atmosphere on the new artificial surface, which was installed over the summer break and has now hosted several major fixtures since its debut in early August.
The result is a blow for Vålerenga in the Eliteserien standings, with Molde proving tough opponents at a stadium that had already seen Bodø/Glimt take maximum points in an earlier sold-out fixture this month.
A Testing August Comes to a Close
The Molde defeat rounds off a demanding August for Vålerenga at home. The new pitch was inaugurated when Ham-Kam visited on 31 July, before a sell-out crowd of 16,556 watched Bodø/Glimt win 2–1 on 8 August. Sunday's match against Molde was the final home league fixture of the month.
Despite back-to-back defeats to two of Norway's strongest sides, the coming months offer further opportunities at Intility Arena, with Fredrikstad, Brann, Tromsø and Rosenborg all scheduled to visit before the season closes in December.
