Vålerenga W Beat Feyenoord But Exit Europe on Aggregate
Vålerenga Women won their UEFA Women's Europa Cup second-leg tie 2-1 at Intility Arena on September 30, with goals from Pettersen and Arnesen. The victory was not enough to overturn a 4-1 first-leg defeat in Rotterdam, however, sending the Norwegian side out of the competition 5-3 on aggregate.
Battling Display Not Enough to Turn the Tie
Vålerenga Women delivered a gutsy second-leg performance at Intility Arena on Wednesday evening, defeating Dutch side Feyenoord Women 2-1 in the UEFA Women's Europa Cup Second Qualifying Round. The two sides went into the break level at 0-0 before Vålerenga came to life in the second half, with Pettersen S. breaking the deadlock — assisted by Lowry H. — before Arnesen R. sealed the win with a second goal, assisted by Klech L.
Feyenoord pulled one back to make it 2-1, but Vålerenga held on to claim a hard-fought home victory in front of their Oslo faithful.
Aggregate Deficit Proves Too Great
Despite the positive result on the night, it was not enough to overturn the damage done in the first leg. Feyenoord had won 4-1 in Rotterdam the previous week, meaning the aggregate score finished 5-3 in favour of the Dutch club. Vålerenga are therefore eliminated from the 2026-27 UEFA Women's Europa Cup at the qualifying stage.
Nevertheless, the character shown in the second leg — particularly the second-half turnaround — will give head coach and supporters reason for optimism heading into the remainder of the domestic season.
Intility Arena Treated to a Thrilling Evening
For fans who made their way to Intility Arena, it was an evening of European football that showcased the quality of Vålerenga's women's squad. The atmosphere built steadily after the break as the goals went in, and the final whistle was met with appreciation from the home stands despite the overall European exit.
Vålerenga Women are back in action at Intility Arena on October 4, when they host Rosenborg Women — a fixture that now takes on added importance as the squad refocus their energies on the domestic campaign.
