Glimt Silence Sold-Out Intility Arena in 2-1 Defeat
Bodø/Glimt edged past Vålerenga 2-1 at a packed Intility Arena on 8 August, spoiling the debut of the stadium's brand-new artificial surface in front of a capacity crowd of 16,556. A Norwegian Cup tie against Christiania BK at home now offers the hosts a swift chance to respond.
A Night to Forget on the New Surface
Intility Arena's brand-new artificial pitch had barely been broken in before it hosted one of the season's most painful results. Bodø/Glimt, the reigning title challengers, arrived in Oslo on 8 August for a sold-out Eliteserien Round 17 clash — and left with all three points after a 2-1 victory in front of 16,556 fans, filling the stadium to its absolute capacity.
Glimt struck first through S. Auklend in the 19th minute and extended their lead via O. Blomberg on 76 minutes. A late consolation from O. Sæter in the 87th minute gave the home supporters something to cheer, but it was too little, too late.
A Cup Shot at Redemption
With the league defeat still fresh, attention at Intility Arena quickly turned to the cup. A Norwegian Cup clash against Christiania BK has been confirmed to take place at the stadium, giving Vålerenga — and their supporters — the chance to bounce back on home turf in the very near future.
The cup tie represents a fresh opportunity for the squad to regroup, build momentum, and send another big crowd home happy on the Oslo ground's gleaming new surface.
What Lies Ahead at Intility Arena
Despite the defeat, the fixture list remains an exciting one. Molde are due at Intility Arena on 29 August in another top-flight showdown, followed later in the season by the likes of Brann, Fredrikstad and Rosenborg — with the latter pencilled in for as late as 6 December.
Vålerenga Women are also in action at the arena, with Toppserien fixtures against Hønefoss W and Rosenborg W among the highlights of the women's schedule. The stadium, with its new pitch and a packed calendar ahead, remains the beating heart of football in Oslo.
