Glimt Silence Sold-Out Intility Arena on Debut of New Pitch
A capacity crowd of 16,556 turned out for the biggest home match of Vålerenga's 2026 season, only to see Bodø/Glimt leave Oslo with a 2-1 win. The defeat came on the same afternoon that Intility Arena unveiled its brand-new artificial surface — and with a cup tie against Christiania BK now also moved to the ground, the stadium's autumn programme is busier than ever.
Visitors Silenced a Full House
Intility Arena was rocking on 8 August when a sell-out crowd of 16,556 packed into Valle Hovin for the most eagerly anticipated home fixture of the 2026 Eliteserien season. The occasion, however, belonged to the visitors: Bodø/Glimt edged past Vålerenga 2-1, silencing the stands in what was still a memorable afternoon for Norwegian top-flight football.
The match also served as the first major test on the stadium's brand-new artificial surface, installed during the Eliteserien summer break. The new pitch performed without issue, and the atmosphere inside the bowl underlined just how much Vålerenga's home support had been looking forward to the return of big football at Intility Arena.
The New Surface at the Heart of It All
The pitch upgrade was the headline infrastructure story heading into the second half of the season. The old artificial surface was stripped and replaced entirely during the summer, with the work completed in time for the restart. Stadium management have made clear the investment is designed to keep Intility Arena competitive with the best venues in the Eliteserien.
With a capacity of 16,556 and a fixture list that now reads like a who's who of Norwegian football, the new surface will be well tested before December.
Cup Tie Brought Home
Off the back of the Bodø/Glimt spectacle, Vålerenga confirmed on 14 August that their cup tie against Christiania BK has been relocated to Intility Arena. The move is welcome news for supporters who missed out on tickets to the sold-out league match, offering another chance to fill the stands on home soil.
Molde are the next Eliteserien visitors, due in Oslo on 29 August. Fredrikstad, Brann, Tromsø and Rosenborg — the last of whom are pencilled in for 6 December — will all follow before the curtain comes down on the 2026 campaign.
